What to know about EMFACE?
Facial muscle stimulation technologies are a new, fresh direction of aesthetics. Strengthening of some facial muscles leads to the effect of lifting almost the entire face. Although botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles, EMFACE and botulinum treatments even complement each other! This is because they work on different muscle groups: EMFACE is designed to strengthen the elevator muscles of the face, while botulinum toxin relaxes the facial depressors (the muscles that “pull” the face down). In some cases, when too much botulinum toxin is injected into the frontal (forehead) muscle, it causes the eyebrows to “fall”. In this case, the EMFACE procedure, by stimulating the frontal muscle, can help to “lift” the eyebrows.

During the treatment, three applicators are taped to the skin of the face: in the area of the forehead and both cheeks. The muscles that are responsible for lifting the oval of the face are stimulated.
The EMFACE procedure is completely non-invasive and painless. During the treatment, a pleasant warmth is felt due to radio frequency exposure, as well as involuntary contractions of certain groups of facial muscles. Tingling, mild pinching sensation or a feeling of “running ants” may be felt. No anesthesia is required during the procedure.
First, the face is cleaned and disinfected so that no cosmetics, grease or dirt remains. After that, strictly taking into account the anatomy of the face, three applicators are attached to certain areas: one on the forehead and two on the cheeks. One electrode is taped on the back between the shoulder blades. The procedure is performed by constantly adapting its intensity according to the client’s subjective feelings. The duration of the procedure is 20 minutes.
After the EMFACE procedure, the skin on the face may be red because blood circulation is activated, but you can return to your normal daily routine immediately – there is no healing period.
The course of EMFACE consists of at least 4 procedures every 5-10 days (the number of treatments also depends on age, for example, 5 procedures are recommended for people over 50 years old, and 6 or more procedures for people over 60 years old). Most often, the treatments should be scheduled once a week.
The results appear as the condition of the skin and muscles of the face gradually improve, and you will notice the most beautiful result in about 3 months after the whole course. How long the results will last depends on individual characteristics of the body, lifestyle and other factors. After that, it is recommended to perform maintenance treatments every 4-6 months.
The EMFACE procedure is not suitable for pregnant women, breast-feeding women, those with oncological diseases, taking certain medications and those with some diseases, rashes or signs of infection at the procedure site. Also, the treatment cannot be performed in the presence of metal, electronic implants in the face area, head, jaws. The procedure can be performed in cases of dental implants, but a cotton swab should be placed between the cheek and the teeth. The EMFACE procedure is not recommended in the area of large scars.
Yes, the EMFACE procedure is suitable when facial fillers are injected, as long as there is a safe period when the area is fully healed. It is even better to plan all injectables after the EMFACE course, then you will likely need even less filler.
- The day before and on the day of the procedure, it is recommended not to use oily body lotions and emollients, as one electrode is glued to the back area.
- Before the procedure begins, the face will be cleaned and disinfected, so you can prepare your make-up base in advance if you need to mask the redness after the procedure.
- There should be no hair in the areas where the applicators are glued, so it is recommended for men to shave clean immediately before the procedure. The back area can also be shaved before the electrode is applied.
- Immediately before the procedure, you will be asked to remove all metal objects and jewelry.
- It is recommended to drink more water a few days before the procedure.
